Boeing has marked two main milestones for the RAAF, with the induction of the primary P-8A Poseidon into a serious improve program and the supply of the fleet’s thirteenth plane, additional strengthening Australia’s maritime surveillance and anti-submarine warfare functionality.

Australia is the primary worldwide P-8A operator to obtain the Increment 3 improve, with supply of the RAAF’s thirteenth Poseidon happening on 29 September. The 14th and closing plane is scheduled to reach in 2026.

Naomi Smith, director of Boeing Defence Australia sustainment operations, celebrated the upgrades and the improved capabilities they’ll deliver to the RAAF.

“These upgrades, along with the supply of the thirteenth P-8A, mark two vital developments for Australia’s defence of its huge shoreline,” she stated.

“Increment 3 Block 2 will ship next-generation detection and focusing on for our aircrews, whereas the most recent plane strengthens fleet readiness and operational attain — all whereas sustaining full interoperability with the U.S. Navy’s P-8A fleet.”

The primary two plane will bear modification at Boeing’s Jacksonville upkeep and restore facility within the US, the primary worldwide upgrades performed there.

The remaining plane shall be upgraded in Australia at BDA’s Deeper Upkeep and Modification Facility close to RAAF Base Edinburgh, South Australia, with the assist of greater than 30 new apprentices and trainees who’ve already joined Boeing Defence Australia, with an extra 30 positions to be created as this system scales up.

The RAAF at present operates 12 Poseidons throughout No. 11 and No. 292 Squadrons at Edinburgh, with two extra on order.
