The CAA’s Might 2025 reply to CAP 2610 marks a major shift in how unmanned plane techniques (UAS) shall be regulated within the UK—from product design to operational classes, Distant ID, and airspace integration.

Key takeaways:-Introduction of UK-specific class markings (UK0–UK6) from Jan 2026– Obligatory Direct Distant ID for many drones ≥100g (with phased exemptions)– Readability on legacy UAS use in A2 & A3 classes past 2026– CAA formally confirmed because the Market Surveillance Authority– Geo-awareness from 2026; geo-fencing below improvement– Phasing out of CAP 722 in favour of clearer, accessible steering

At Blakiston’s Chambers, we’re already advising drone operators, producers, and importers on:– Transition planning for Distant ID and UK class markings.– Threat assessments and enforcement readiness below the Market Surveillance Authority framework– Regulatory divergence from the EU and its industrial implications– UAS product conformity and contractual threat allocation

In case your drone operations, merchandise or shoppers shall be impacted by these reforms, now could be the time to evaluate your compliance place.
