Spain and Türkiye agreed on the workshare to develop the Spanish Hürjets, which can have main Spanish subsystems, forward of the signing of the contract.

A brand new settlement between TAI (Turkish Aerospace Industries) and Airbus Defence and Area has now formalized the partnership between the 2 firms for the Spanish acquisition of the Hürjet jet coach. The settlement was signed final week on the IDEF (Worldwide Protection Business Honest) 2025, forward of a remaining business deal to be signed by September or October.

Beneath the settlement, the Spanish Air and Area Pressure (SASF) will purchase as much as 30 Hürjet airframes, with deliveries anticipated to start in 2028. The brand new plane will exchange the service’s fleet of 19 SF-5M Freedom Fighter jet trainers.

The newest settlement divides the workshare between TAI/TUSAS and Airbus. The latter is a consultant for the consortium of Spanish industries that may manufacture the plane’s main elements and sub-systems.

The ball was set rolling after Spain evaluated the Hürjet prototype between July and August 2024 at Torrejon Air Base, close to Madrid. This was adopted by a December 2024 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Turkey’s Presidency of Protection Industries (SSB) and the Spanish Ministry of Protection, formally choosing the Hürjet as the longer term coach.

Then, in Might 2025, TAI revealed the full-sized mannequin of the Hürjet with SASF markings for show on the Feindef 2025 exhibition in Spain.

In response to Every day Sabah, the “settlement clarified the roles of the 2 firms within the Hürjet mission and formalized the partnership between TAI and Airbus in Spain’s jet coach plane procurement course of.” Spanish and Turkish industries would cooperate to develop what’s being referred to as the broader Built-in Coaching System-Fight (ITS-C) that’s centered across the Hürjet, with a purpose to put together the plane for Spanish use.

Aviation Week touched upon the finer industrial-commercial features the MoU goals to deal with, saying the settlement permits each Turkish and Spanish engineers to “decide which subsystems would go into the plane […] relying upon the price and time influence on this system.” This takes into consideration the truth that a manufacturing line in Spain is just not possible for the small variety of airframes Madrid plans to purchase.

Throughout Feindef 2025 in June, agreements with Spanish firms like Aernnova, GMV, Indra, ITP Aero, Grupo Oesía, and Sener, have been signed.

Demiroğlu predicts that the Hürjet’s improvement work ought to be full by late 2027 or early 2028. Robles added that the “Spanish-ization of the plane” permits the event of a Spanish model of the plane with nationwide design authority. She additional highlighted this system’s financial influence of €2.887 billion in enterprise, straight supporting 792 direct jobs, with a complete employment influence of two,614.

The Hürjet has to date accomplished 210 check flights and achieved a most velocity of Mach 1.4. The supersonic superior jet coach is centered round a holistic Hürjet Coaching 360 System, full with an Embedded Coaching System, Floor-Primarily based Coaching System and Stay-Digital Constructive Coaching, extra fitted to the coaching of pilots that may fly on fifth era plane.

Its trendy interface reduces the transition time to fifth era plane, whereas the “good single-engine configuration permits decrease gas consumption, simpler and quicker upkeep, and decreased use of spare components,” Every day Sabah stated. The plane can contact a most altitude of 45,000 ft, with a payload of 6,000 lb and a spread of 1,200 NM.
